Pork, Hamburger, Chicken, Turkey etc

Vargas Sep 30, 2003 02:03 PM

When giving Tegu Pork, Hamburger, Chicken etc
Is it best to have it cooked or serve it raw.
Two things I noticed in Berts video was he served
his masive army of Tegu raw turkey and even raw eggs.
I imagine that is fine - would that be correct?
Thanks in advance Steve - owner of Milton Burrow - a Tegu that can burrow to the core of the earth. lol

I feed my tegu raw turkey and raw eggs. He has taken cooked eggs too.

He gets feed (Amounts decrease down the list):
Ground turkey mixed with fruit, vitamins and Ca supliment
Eggs
Straight fruits- he'll only take the really sweet and/or juicey ones(bananas, grapes, oranges)
Whole mice
Whole quail
Insects
Earth Worms

I know that larvae such as meal and butter worms offer a calcium content for our Tegus, but I was just curious about what earthworms contain? Anyone know?

Thanks.....MAP

Earthworms are said to be very nutritious. They are great for fattening young animals and conditioning in preperation for breeding. This is very true of fish. I don't know that nutritional content and I have never heard of them being particulaly wonderful for tegus, BUT I'm sure they are not bad for them and it adds variety. Elvis doesn't really like them that much. He'll only eat a few. Like anything else be sure you have a healthy source before feeding them to anything you care about.
