2010 Ventura Co. zonata

zonatahunt Jul 14, 2011 04:56 PM

I was in the snake room earlier and snapped off a couple of shots of my favorite Ventura Co. hatchling from last year. She was incredibly cooperative, so afterwards I rewarded her with two pinks. Enjoy!

Hatching is finally getting underway here...I love this time of year.

I lived most of my life in Ojai (Ventura Co.) and used up a lot of shoe leather hunting for Zonatas. In my oppinion they are some of the best looking.
I would guess by the looks yours came from Matilija Canyon stock. They always seemed better looking than the ones from Santa Paula Creek.
God, I wish I could turn back the clock. Getting old sucks.

Pete,

Nope, this animal isn't from that locality, but yes, they do require a bit of time to find. You're very lucky to have grown up in Ojai, that's such a beautiful area. It's the hometown to one of my old labmate's.

Simply, in the most complex way, stunning, Mitch! Coast animals are the most gorgeous, in my opinion, and this particular one sure proves it!

DMong Jul 14, 2011 09:21 PM
