Just a couple of pics.........

Gene Sep 30, 2003 02:48 PM

I was snapping pix last night, I apologize for the poor quality but I was juggling the camera in one hand & the critter in the other.

This is my little male okeetee. I really enjoy them but they are the most bitey animals I have. Strange to me considering their "tame" reputation and the other animals I have that are normally considered very not tame.

Someone took a last minute intrest in the camera.

I really like his ground color. It's a nicer contrast than the usual fiery orange that you see. Then again, that may develop over time. Either way, nice looking snake!

Thanks,

They are still very young and I feel will develope more intense colors as they age. I do however like the orange too. I guess only time will tell.

Thanks again.

They are very tame...it's just the little guys that get nippy. Though I have to say, I'd be nippy too if I hadn't learned yet that not everything that touched me was out to eat me! Give them time.

It's just laughable to me that they act that way. I have 2 baby Dumerils boas, a baby green anaconda, and numerous monitor lizards that don't put up anywhere near the struggle these little guys do.

They can have all the time in the world.

Thanks, Gene

Do most corns actually bite often? I thought they are tame animals...

They are just so tiny when they are babies that they think they have to put on a real show. Like I said in the post above it is actually funny to see them be "big & bad".

Don't let me give you a bad idea of them. Mine have actually calmed down a lot as they have grown and I have even had some that didn't put on their show. Besides, a child can flick harder with a finger (thump) than they can bite.

Seriously... I have had corns for four years. I was bit for the first time a couple of weeks ago by a really shy baby. If I hadn't been watching him I would have thought he just bumped me with his nose. You really can't even tell they have teeth. None of my adults have ever even tried to strike at me.
