couple little things

somegirl Sep 30, 2003 03:07 PM

first, i ordered some waxworms (still waiting on wormman...grrr) primarily for my new leo who isnt interested in food or much of anything else. im going to guess they are too big to feed to my little dragon, 2.5 inches to snout, yes? at least she's started eating her crix if not her greens, aaaaannnnnd my parazap arrived today

second, kaipo has some long, sharp nails. can beardie nails safely be trimmed?

Waxworms aren't very big, but you may be getting in to trouble by giving them to your beardie. It'd probably refuse crix after eating a couple.
They get spoiled real fast and can be real stubborn.
Maybe w/the parazap your beardie's appetite will pick up and it won't be too picky, ya gots to take your chances, I guess : )

I wouldn't ever cut it's nails just because I've seen this done to animals and it seems harder for them to move and climb. It seems like torture when I see lizards that can't climb, because of that. I don't think it's nails should be too big of a problem if you leave them on.

...but you have to be very careful to just get the sharp tips. I've never seen one have any trouble whose nails were trimmed properly. Here's a pic of a diagram that may help; it's from Melissa Kaplan's site.

yup, ive noticed kaipo will eat just about anything i give him, and dulce handled the waxies ok as long as i was very careful not to let her get used to them but i guess kellen isnt really established enough to risk that quite yet.

im mostly worried about the new leo who doesnt want to eat and has been in shed for 2 weeks (normally, they eat the shed as they pull it off their bodies, and the whole thing is overwith within half an hour). she's too weak to finish her shed i think. now that kellen has started to eat crix, im really just trying to get vilma the leo on track although i will certainly let both dulce and kellen get a taste of some parazap, particularly since they havent seen a vet or had a fecal and their origins arent quite as solid as kaipo's ( he came from Lisa lol)

guses i better run out and find an eyedropper!

Use the parazap on your Vilma(leo) too.....should help pick up her appetite as well.
