this is my opinion only but...
the baby does not look like a pure 100% cornsnake to me.
also where are the hets?? I would like to see
what the hets (normal het Palmetto) babies look like.
I would love to see the results of breeding the Palmetto to a nice Okeetee from South Carolina.....
Color and pattern. The eyes are too big and the head
to wide for a typical corn. I have all the respect in the world for Don, again just my opinion...

Shiari Jul 18, 2011 04:19 PM

He posted the normal offspring and the het parents of the most recent clutch over at cornsnakes . com and they looked like 100% ordinary boring normal cornsnakes.

also if you read the information he has written on his page about the Palmettos you will see that quite a few people who have been in the trade for years and years, including Bill Love, Don himself and others have inspected these corns and see absolutely no hybrid markers. Scale count, anal plates, hatchling size, everything that allows you to distinguish between corns and rats all say corn snake.
But I guess looking at one picture tells more then in-hand inspection by more then one person we would call expert.

Hi Mike,........

The normal hets look totally 100% genuine cornsnake. I asked Jim about what they looked like a while back because he himself bred the Palmetto to a couple of his corns just prior to sending it to Don just to be safe in case something were to happen to it in transit. Here are some good shots that Don took of some.

Here is the link below.........

Yo Doug
Went to the site but I do not see the pics?? Maybe need to log in. But I take you at your word.
All I am saying is go to the web site (www.cornsnake.net) and compare the 2 pics...the Palmetto after shed to the Sunrise Tessera. The heads are completely different. The Palmetto has huge eyes and a rounded head. Not smaller eyes and a narrower head.
Hybirds do occur naturally. I have found snakes n Hillsborough county that look like yellow red crosses...Again just my free opinion ( i dont give a crap about the so call experts) but i see obsoleta...

dumje Jul 18, 2011 09:12 PM

...the Hets are very normal looking corns...and likely...the difference you see is either an illusion or another mutation besides the color change.

Well, I don't know what you are seeing or maybe not seeing clearly. But if that isn't pure corn I do not know what is. And we produce several hundred every year.

Beautiful animals and I personally am looking forward to adding them to our group.

Good job guys and to keep it quiet for long enough to prove them out is awesome.

Good Luck with them and put me on the list when they are ready to go as I have already told you!!!

adamjeffery Jul 22, 2011 08:59 AM

if you mix obsoleta and a corn you still wont get anything even remotely to look like the palmetto corn. there is also too much color in the palmetto for it to be obsoleta.
i agree the head and eyes look funny. i believe it to be an illusion do to the mutation. i have far to much respect for Don and Bill to NOT take there word for it. just as i have respect for you when it comes to hondos.
i also am pro hybrid so i wouldn't care either way, its a wicked "pet" hobby snake mutation.
