Noneating Boa hatchling advise

Scotthobby Jul 19, 2011 11:17 AM

Andybody have advise on a noneating hatchling? Four days after I got her i fed her a subadult mouse and she took it and got down to the tail and then regurgitated it. Ever since then she has had no intrest and its been a week. Not sure if she got spooked or what. She doesnt look emaciated or anything. So, any tips?? Thanks in advance...

First off, if she has decent size right now, she could easily go weeks, even months without eating at all. Of course not recommended, just letting you know so you don't stress out.

For a newly arrived hatchling I always wait several days before offering food. New enclosure, shipping or even just transporting can be very stressful for a baby. Let her settle into her new surroundings. I saw you waited four days that's good. Also sounds like you've tried multiple times since then? I only offer food once a week, eat or not. Best response is in the evening. And go small to start with, maybe that first meal was too much?

Of course check and verify temps and humidity right away!!

are you feeding fresh killed (F/K) or frozen thawed (F/T)? Often babies won't eat F/T right away but will readily take F/K.

My heat and humidity are ok and I fed her a F/T and she took it without much hesitation. Maybe I'll try a F/K next time. Also, I have noticed her re-alligning her jaws every once in a while.. but I dont think she has any respitory problems. I also wonder if her tank is too big, shes in a 20 gal But I put a hide cave and fake plants so its not all open space. Just have to wait and see, i guess

You need to give her more time to settle in... I always wait at least 2 weeks before feeding a new acquisition..... I would wait even longer now that she regurgitated....She needs time to hydrate.... Dont handle her at all...... Your next move is very critical.... If you jump the gun by being overzealous with your feeding attempts you could send her into a downward spiral of regurge very quickly
