Is it normal for a ball to shed twice in one month?

newsnakemom Sep 30, 2003 04:29 PM

Our ball shed on 9/12/03, it was in pieces, despite the soaking and misting daily. Anyway... two days ago, I noticed that the eyes are cloudy again. Is this normal, or is there something wrong? He is about 9 or 10 months old. He escaped on 9/18/03 and we found him on 9/24/03 in the living room. He was very thirsty. I have fed him since then, and have soaked him in a rubbermaid for an hour, everyday, since the eyes started clouding. Do they shed that often?

My young female did that; shedding twice in one month. It was during the time that I upped her "dose" of mice from one a week to two. She started growing much more rapidly, and did shed twice in a month.. but another thing I noticed is, one time I thought her eyes were opaque and thus predicting a shed. then a few days later they looked normal, no shed. So maybe it was an indication of dryness? I am really not sure; maybe someone with much more xpertise than i can answer more, but if your snake is eating a lot and growing fast, it sure is possible. You could look for more signs of shedding, like the pinkish belly and the dull, dry skin color, to confirm your suspicion. I would like to know how this turns out!

It is not "normal" but may occur under certain circumstances such as trauma, injury, and in severe cases of dehyration. An injured animal, either by laceration or especially burns will shed sometimes several times in a month. He should return to normal cycles once rehydrated.

since he shed in pieces. Stress can induce a shed cycle, however, so it is possible.

Thanks for your help. He did shed last night, and finally!!! all in one piece. I guess when he had escaped, and was mia for a week, he got both stressed and dehydrated. I guess he is all better now.
Thanks!!!
