Super Motley's Het. Albino and a ??

summitreptiles Jul 21, 2011 11:30 AM

This litter was born here yesterday from a Motley x Sunglow Motley. 19 Perfect babies, 2 Slugs. No big bellies, no dead babies, no yolk sacks.

I know a few people have produced Super Motley's in the past and I am curious to know if anyone still has one that is alive? If so I would love to see some updated photos and for anyone that has produced them, I would like to know what your litters were like. Were the babies strong to start with, did they feed well, what were the sizes of the babies (both Supers and the rest). Any information would be great. I am just doing a little research to see if we can find any keys to making these little gems stronger and able to live long healthy lives.

Thanks,
Brandon Weik

I've heard the dwarf centrals live longer, but have not saw much evidence of this personally. I would think that the greatest possibility of making it work would be through intergrades or outright hybrids...a similar "lethal gene" effect occurred originally in Cameo peafowl, which rarely survived long enough to breed as pure India blues. Today's Cameos all have some degree of Java green in their ancestry and tend to have relatively normal life spans (although I think the higher percentage blues are still somewhat weak, similar to albinos).

Brandon,

Peter Rice had 2008 male CA super motley that was supposedly breeding a female during the 2010-2011 breeding season. Not sure if it's true though.

You have to give me more than that buddy! Have you had any of these or know any more information than what has been posted publicly?

By the way, you had a heck of a season my friend! Congrats!

Thanks,

I can only tell you regarding super jungles and I lost my shirt and it broke my heart. 2 Gorgeous female non hypos and an albino male. Lost a load of money, got them in 2007 they were 05s 4 foot and change. All died between the fall of 08 and beginning of 09 for no reason. 1 day wouldn't eat, and few weeks later dead in the cage..those are my notes on my experiences. Regarding motleys I heard identical stories from others, which out of respect I'll let them tell their tale. At least your outcrossing and making them and not paying for them and have 4-5 it seems. My only suggestion is raise them slow, instead maturing a male in 2 years do it in 5, the female in 8-9. Try this and see I will be watching your progress.

Thank you, I was fortunate to have a nice number of mature adults in prime health to pair and breed.

I couldn't agree more, I think the first US born Super Jungles were very weak just like the originals. I have been raising mine very slow, still eating small rats at 1.5 years old. They seem different than the originals I saw at Pete's many years ago, but only time will tell. Thanks for input and experiences Manny.

Good luck with everything.

I have no more info than the rumor mill that has always surrounded the super motley... But that is a pairing I plan to attempt this season! I have always been fascinated with proving, or disproving many of the "lethal" gene or non thriving animal projects... Super Mots, Super Jungle, Blizzard and such. Just want to KNOW for myself!
Congrats on a healthy litter and great odds too!

Darin-

I couldn't agree more. I am raising a few Super Jungles I produced in 2009 and do not see any of the problems others have reported with them. My animals are solid in Muscle Tone, Feeding, and Nuerologically. So far so good. I believe that with outcrossing and introducing strong bloodlines to weaker ones, in time you can create stronger versions of what was once weak and as you said "Lethal" I don't know if I am there yet, but I trying.

I also think that all of these snakes have gotten a bit of a bad reputation based on a very small control group of examples. That is why I am asking questions so I can try to learn more about what everyone experienced and hopefully learn from that and take the next step towards "non-lethal" Super Jungles, Super Motley's, etc. Rather than write them off....

Take Care,

I agree with yor mindset 100% my breeders are as unrelated as they could be.... The grandfather of my blizzard project female was a wild caught type 2!
And I WILL post ALL of my results

Good point.... I will be sharing my experience with these guys as well. I am excited no matter the outcome because I have a chance to learn something about them first hand. I will post some more photos after they shed.
