Rub a Raw Quail w/a Mouse for Feeding?

LightElf Jul 23, 2011 11:54 AM

Ok, the LightElf is back with another wacky yet incredibly brilliant idea :D

We all know that mice and rats aren't the best for our snakes.

Well what about coating a raw bird, even raw chicken with a dead mouse. I for one know that my python would eat a book if it even remotely smelled like a mouse!

We do? Why is that? What do you base this on?

The problem with feeding birds is that there is a lot of indigestible mass in a bird, such as feathers. I had a very knowledgeable herp vet many years ago tell me that he thought birds are less desirable food for captive herps because of their lack of nutrient density.

Of course, maybe the feathers act like snake metamucil?

Well mice/rats have more fat in them than lets say, rabbits.
