Hello all,

I'm looking for pics/descriptions of optimum hide boxes for Savs.

Thanks in advance!

I just have a whole bunch of dirt and a few large pieces of cork bark layered on both sides of the enclosure. They can either burrow, crawl between pieces of bark, or sit on top. They like to start their burrows under things, so the cork bark helps in that sense, too.

Hi phiff,
I think you just need to provide hiding places (they don`t specifically need to be boxes), that the monitor can squeeze into and feel safe and secure. Size is dependent on the size of the animal at this moment in time.
As JoOaks says, they`ll make their own "hides", if you give them the means.

For my juvenile sav I have a piece of 2 inch wide PVC pipe that works really well. My monitor loves to hide in it. I also have a stack of 4 bricks set up like lincoln logs but u keep the opening small. Hope this helps

Hi, I've been looking into hides as well. I've come across one way, that is usually used for smaller lizards, by taking half a soda bottle or something, gluing styrofoam pieces onto to make it look like a rock or log, then putting approximately 3 coats of GROUT on the outside, and two on the inside. You also might want to look into the "Rete's stacks" which provide not only a hide, but a nice basking spot. Goodluck!
