Is it safe to breed females every year? I usually give them a break and breed them every other year. My son is very reluctant about putting them to breed every year; he says that it's very stressful on the females, going off food for the gravid period, and losing calcium for the eggs shells. I say that if they are well fed, they can be bred every year. Even if they don't breed, most females go on a hungry strike during the breeding season anyway...
Any input?
