Thai Retics

sincityretics May 26, 2003 09:23 PM

I realize that locality and size has sparked a firestorm of debate among us retic keepers and breeders. It seems Retics have been classed by mainland and island forms . Island being further more divided (jampea, kayaudi, ambon etc...). And Mainland seems always to refer to those Malaysian monsters. Heres my question has anyone worked with Retics that they knew were of Thai origin or 100% sure of being produced by thai parents. If you have can anyone give any info size, temperment, colors maybe even a pic.

thanks

I once asked Bob Clark about Sulawesi retics and he told me that his retics were of Thai origin. I purchased a female from him earlier this year and she is doing great. She has a great feeding response and is growing rapidly. Her mother is ~20ft. and her father is ~13 ft. I expect her to grow very large as well. She also has a wonderful temperament. I hope I answered some of your questions.

In all probability, Thai and Malaysian retics are one and the same. I've yet to see any focus on either of them as most of the localities seem to centre around the Indonesian retics.

The retic in Sammy's photo looks very much like what can be found over here. Generally, I've found both CB or WC retics(when obtained at hatchling stage) to be very tractable and docile. However, they are all individuals and therefore, may differ in temperaments. I'd say that with lots of handling, they usually stay docile.

Here is a pic of two of my retics. The lighter one is CB while the darker one is a WC. Both are Malaysians.
