a sad end to a good start...

brianm616 Jul 28, 2011 10:06 PM

my second clutch of nelsoni just finished hatching. with one sad exception:

it looks like it lost it's egg tooth while slicing through the egg, and since it didn't make anywhere near a big enough hole it ended up drowning inside.

it's very sad that it made it this far to just not be able to get out of the egg...

It is indeed sad. It was a beauty too!

terrible to make it all that way...usually there is a reason they don't make it...but I cut all my eggs open 24 hours after the first pipper.

Sorry...great looking snake.

rusty,

i'd love to do that, but i don't incubate. i'm coastal, so i keep them in the warmest room in the house in the spring and the coolest room in the house in the summer. so i've had clutch-mates hatch more than five days apart, so i'm afraid i'd end up doing more damage than good if i cut too soon.

fingers crossed this was just one of those freak of nature things.

Hey Brian,
Sorry buddy. I haven't bred milks yet so I haven't had this happen (yet). I have cut ball pythons open after the first one pips as mentioned previously. Some people say let nature take it's course. It's all up to you...
Peace,
Charlton

charlton,

two still hadn't pipped when i had left for work. i checked when i got home (about 11 hours later) and one had its head sticking out and the other had a really small hole with the end of its tail sticking out.

when i cut into it i instantly knew it was dead. still, 7 for 8 so far. only 70 or so left to hatch.

70 or more still to hatch!?! You're going to have your hands full, lol. Hope you have lots of pinkies my friend .

sure do. that was my main reason for going to the san jose show.

i knew layne labs had a booth.

Brian, I can feel your pain for sure. Here's one that pipped but couldn't leave the egg. Sad, but sure had the will to survive. It always makes me wonder what went wrong.
