Have corns and Hondos and been wanting to get back into Balls. I've been watching Youtube videos on Balls and racks on my Apple TV and leaving it on the screen (not on purpose). My wife has taken notice and surprised me when she identified a Bumblebee the other day.
Long story short...she negotiated a deal with a guy at her work getting rid of a male Spider and female Pastel. She bought them and informed me we were going to pick them up last night after work.
Got them set up last night and tried to feed them today since I had mice thawed out for the rest of the crew (no rats in the house since I only have adult corns). Supposedly the Spider has only ever eaten live sm. rats and the Pastel eats 2 live mice every other week. Well tonight they both ate 2 f/t mice! I'll try pre-killed rats next week!
I still need to weigh and probe them to be sure of the sex. It looks like the male will be ready for breeding this Fall. Probably another year on the Pastel. Still should be some Bumblebees in the future!
Either way, I got a good deal. They are both '09 hatches. $130 for the Spider male and $100 for the Pastel (hoping it really is a female). Plus he threw in a 40 gallon breeder Critter Cage in great shape (lamps, decorations, etc...) FWIW he said they weren't co-habitated. They're in my rack now in separate bins.
