Going to Daytona?

flaskeeter Aug 04, 2011 08:54 AM

Is anybody planning to go to Daytona this year? Did you go last year, and if so, what did you think of it? I've been going since it was held in the Sheraton twin towers in Orlando, but I've been somewhat disappointed the last couple of years. I'm fortunate enough to live within driving distance so I'll probably give in to temptation and go. How about everyone else?

I was hoping to attend this year for one simple reason: to meet up with some of the great friends I made their last year. The show itself last year sucked, in my opinion. Sadly, like many shows, it has become a monoculture, which even for the ball python lover has to get a bit boring, given then every table has the exact same animals as the one before it.

I have decided to attend Tinley instead this year as it should be a better show, given that it is not under the restrictions from FWS.

That said, if I was in driving distance (even 5 hours) I would attend.

i was fortunate to go to daytona in 07 for the first time and have not been since. that year it was the biggest show in the world bigger than hamm that year. i have heard that it has gone down hill since then. ive been wanting to get back down to a florida show but i keep having kids that are born in august so it puts a damper on things...lol

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

I will be going. Last year was my first year so I don't have a point of reference as to how far it has fallen... But I had a great time, saw some awesome animals, and made some new friends! It is one show that I can count on my wife being as stoked about as me, but for the beach!
I will say I did expect more and if it doesn't deliver more this year it will be my last year... I did want to do a table, but with my collection being 90% Boas, FWS has made it hard to sell them there

We will be there as Pro Exotics and ShipYourReptiles, allowing attendees and vendors to ship animals and merchandise home from the show, and TSK Supply will be next to us offering all of the shipping supplies, as well as TSK animals!

I am really looking forward to this year's show!

I have also been going to this show every year. Many years at the Orlando location also. It has gone down to the point that I have decided to drive the few hundred extra miles to do the Tinley show. Gonna miss it but looking forward to , what I hear is a great show ,Tinley.

Genius marketing!

What I will say is that the main part of Daytona that should not be missed, is the night life. The seminars, the USARK raffle, and simply hanging with various breeding, friends, etc. I am gutted that I will miss this year. its going to be my first year at Tinley, so hopefully that will satisfy my cravings this year.

After what Florida has been trying to get done legislation-wise? Not a chance I'd give them my $$$ to visit that state, even if I were within driving distance. I'll give my tourist money to a more snake-friendly state.

Hey...don't forget that "The Python Hunters" will be there! They are some of the most snake-friendly assets of Florida
and they are definitely doing their part to educate the world. AND...these guys have been vendors at NRBE Daytona/Orlando for many years too. All the more reason to come and give them and USARK our support. I hope The Python Hunters run the auction this year, it would be a blast!

Our tables are right next to TSK, so come and say hi to us too!

I am looking foward to the show this year, lots of old friends, it is my boyfriends first time going and i have snakes i have to pick up down there.. Which i will be shipping home with you Robyn Like others said Daytona is more then just the show, its the life after the show, pretty much a 4 day party and i cant wait to get down there.. I went for many years running back when it was held at the Radisson twin towers in Orlando, but have only been once since it moved to Daytona and that was close to 5 years ago. I got out of the reptile keeping hobby(except for a pair of blue tongued skinks given to me by a now deceased friend) many years back but am feeling the urge to start keeping again so I may show up to the show if I'm not busy. I was not at all impressed the last time I was there so haven't even bother driving the 15 miles from my home to the Ocean center since.

Im coming all the way from Arizona to see what all the fuss is about. Never been to the Daytona show but I am looking forward to my first time there to meet some good friends. Hey if nothing else it will be great just to see what Chris and Sheila from Gulf Coast Reptiles have out this year in the way of Vanilla stuff. I am really enjoying working with the Vanilla and Vanilla Ghost Gene. I got a pretty clutch from my SuperPastel to Vanilla Mojave breeding this year along with producing several more Vanilla Ghosts. So many different genes and so little money...lol Jay
