Tonight I tried a different technique yet again with Zoe.
When I feed him repta-aide, I put my hand into his cage, and lift him out.
He then sits on my lap while I syringe feed and water him.
I thought I would try this with a silkie as well.
Zoe came out of the cage without a problem. None of the agressive hissing he's been giving me when I reach in with a silkie in my hand.
I sat him on my lap, gently put a little pressure on the hinge of his jaw, and he opened his mouth, just like he would normally do when waiting to be fed repta-aide.
I dropped a much smaller silkworm (there was only two small ones in the whole bunch I received) into his mouth.
He snapped his mouth shut on it, then opened it again, and immediately started retching. He pushed the silkie out of his mouth with his tongue, and continued to make the retching motion. Even after I put him back into his enclosure he did it 4 or 5 more times.
I did as John suggested previously, and have not fed him any repta-aide in about 1 week now. So you'd think he'd be good a hungry by this point...but it still looks like a no go with the silkworms.
Do you think maybe it's because they are so cold? I always use warm water when I mix his repta-aide, and I also always give warm water in the syringe, as well as in his dripper. Maybe he doesn't like the feeling of a warm worm in his mouth?
