Davis Black Bellied Kings

BBBruno Aug 06, 2011 09:04 PM

A little over a year ago I purchased a pair of Ladder Rats from an individual; he added a Davis black bellied King as a throw-in and it turned out to be quite a nice animal with a broken mocha stripe on a chocolate brown body and a very dark belly. I've always liked Cal Kings, bred Oregon stock for years, but this is a unique animal (at least in my opinion)and I'd like to pair it up if anyone is working with them. Forgive my naiveity but I assume they are from from Davis CA or from that vicinity.

Rick Staub breeds them (I think he still does). They are from the Davis area and are displaying the recessive gene of hypermelanism. I used to breed the Davis and Mendota hypermelanistics and they are the same recessive gene. The hypermelanistic gene is also half of the recipe in producing the Blizzard cal king (albino & hypermelanism) and half the recipe in producing the Purple Passion cal king (lavender & hypermelanism).

And in reality they don't have black bellies, but are dark brown bellies.

And they are cool looking cal kings. I still produce the hypermelanistics in all patterns to include the patternless, banded, stripe, and the aberrants (like the Davis & Mendotas).

True, not really a black belly, just very dark. Incredibly cool critter; hope I can pair it off.

check with Trumbower, if I'm not mistaken he got a pair from Gary K., and should be breeding them soon.

LOCALITY: Traceable lineage to WC snakes from the same locality.
I don't care how far apart they are (within reason) as long as the localities are stated, buyers can make up their own minds.

NON-LOCAL or GENERIC: Lineage is not traceable to WC
Generics need love too.
