O.K. HERE IT IS.THE FIRST WHITE SIDED GOPHER...........MORE

shannon brown Sep 30, 2003 11:13 PM

Well its a long story:
I went to eugene oreogon this last weekend to do a show.A young gentleman came in on sunday and started talking to me once he saw I had pits on the table.
He said he had collected a cool looking one on the 19th in north central oreogon and that it looked like a white sided bull when he went on line to try and see if he could find one like it.

I was itchen to see it but when he told me he had driven four hours to see the show but had left the snake at home I figured I would never know?
He said he only collected it because he almost hit it with his car and he usually just moves them off the raod.
He keeps a few boas and pythons and a few lizards as pets but hes not into breeding or anything?

Anyways,He told me that if I wanted it I could have it?I was very excited but when I mentioned shipping it to me he said he had never done that and he was worried on how to do it and etc........

Well I figured if it was the real thing I better get it?I told him I would drive to bend after the show(four hour drive and way out of my way).I arrived at about 10:00 in bend and I called him from the 7/11.

He gave me directions to his house and I headed over.He handed me a bag in his house and I pulled out the 30 inch female and wow it was really a WHITE SIDED GREAT BASIN GOPHER.

I thanked him about 25 times and made my way down the road.
After looking at her a little better and in the sunlight she is a bit piebald as well. You will see in some of the pics.

Anyways,I hope she is genetic as I am pretty sure it will be.

enjoy.

>> she is a bit piebald as well. You will see in some of the pics.

You see that in MANY of the white-sided bullsnakes, too. It is related to the white-sided mutation, somehow, but I don't think it is at all "piebald" in the way we mean it with ball pthons, white tail deer, etc.

Congrats.

It's great seeing some new morphs and bloodlines coming out. Brneda and I will be visiting the IRBA show in San Diego this month. We'll be there for weekend. I think Del and his wife are coming too. Congrats again and we are all lucky you will go the extra mile to check on a story.

Yeah, nice going. Sounds like you took advantage of some who didn't know the value of what he collected.

JLC Oct 01, 2003 01:26 PM

This seems like an awfully rude thing to say. The fact that Shannon was so excited to see the snake and drove four hours the wrong direction to go see it should say a lot to the original owner about its value.

and it's not proven yet; should Shannon have charged him time and mileage? Sorry, I don't see your point.

Bubba,Or whatever your real name is?
I told him up front that the snake was probably one of a kind and similar snake were worth quit a bit when they were first discovered.

The fact that this person is not into breeding at all was the main reason he told me that if I wanted to drive the distance I could have it.It would have been that or he was going to release her back into the wild?
Call my greedy if you will but it sounds like you are a little sore it didn't happen to you?????????

have a nice day
