My first Corn clutch of the year is fully hatched and I couldn't be happier with the results.

This is the 2nd year in the row I've tried for a Pewter, missed out last year, over 20 eggs that could have contained one but didn't. This year wasn't looking good. Was down to the last 3 eggs, one of which was horrible looking, half rotted/moldy, I'd actually considered tossing it a few times but it was candling good so I (thankfully) left it. That icky egg contained the only Pewter of this years 17 egg clutch! Definite keeper, don't know if it's a boy or girl yet.

I am also keeping back one of the Blizzards who has an awesome white nose and mask on his face. Very distinct from the other Blizzard I hatched this year and the two from last year. Hoping maybe he's a Whiteout (Diffused Blizzard) but really no way to know for sure except to raise him up and breed him (or her) to see... I'll know one way or another in a few years

The pairing was Blizzard het Diffused male x Normal het Albino, Charcoal, Diffused, Anery, Hypo female.

The last 3 years I did the Rubberbanded Shoebox thing and the Deli Cup thing to house hatchlings until they were sold. This year I broke down and bought a hatchling rack. A Vision Tabletop 40 bin rack. I didn't really have a good table to put it on so it's on the floor which works fine considering it's 4 feet tall.

WOW, what am amazing difference. SO much easier to clean up after them and change their water. The bins are big enough that my hold back babies and any babies that don't get sold right away can stay in them for quite some time before needing to be moved to my 32 Qt rack. The bins are 18" long by 7.5" wide by 3.5" tall. I know a bit overkill for baby corns, but I wanted one they wouldn't outgrow super fast.

Here is a picture of my new rack, which is now almost totally filled with this years hatchlings and a few 2011 babies I've purchased over the last few months... Then a picture of all of the racks on that side of the room. Hatchling rack on the left, then there is a 32 Qt Rack for Juvenile to Young Adult Corns/Kings. Then a CB70 Rack for adult Corns/Kings, and two CB70 Racks for my Balls Pythons.

I did hatch 1 Fire this year. I hatched one last year, a female, and kept her, so it's unlikely I'll keep the one from this year.

Here are pics of the Fire I kept back from last year, as a hatchling, at a few months old, and now. Her name is Leeloo.

Yup, both the Fire from last year and the one from this year have pure white bellies, quite distinct from their Albino siblings. I tried to get a picture but she's really wiggly and did not want to lay on her back for beans!

Just keep in mind that sometimes hets will display plain bellies too. I hatched out 4 snakes 2 years ago from a Bloodred to Hypo pairing, and two of the babies had plain bellies. I bred two of them this year and got only 2 good eggs but one is a hypo blood, I believe. Good luck with those!

Yeah, I love that the diffused gene can show through on hets and often give them funky bellies and even nicer than normal topsides. I picked 3 genes to work with, in a vain attempt at keeping my collection in check, with so many awesome morphs out there it's hard not to want one of everything The first gene I picked to work with is Diffused, as such I have many Diffused and het Diffused in my collection. The 2nd is Lavender. And the 3rd is Motley. I won't take in a Corn that isn't one of those 3 morhps, het for one of the 3, or at very least possible het for one of those 3. My goal at the moment it to hatch or buy a Fire het Charcoal that is opposite sex to my Pewter het Amel. That way any "Blizzard" to hatch out would for sure be a WhiteOut which is one of the morphs I so want to create. I hope the one I am holding back this year is a WhiteOut but won't know for sure until she's breeding size and can be put to something Diffused. Got off topic a bit there... sorry

Here is my male Normal who is het for Diffused, and 4 other traits. Bought him from Kathy Love back in 2002 when he was just a week old. You can see the strong Diffused influence even though he's only het for it.
