see through eggs close to hatch!!!!!!!

joecop Aug 12, 2011 03:45 PM

I was getting worried that they had died in the egg. Day 81 and I had not seen anything happening. My buddy Mitch insisted I just wait them out. This sure made my day better when I saw one of them moving around in the egg VERY clearly!! Check it out---

Is that crazy or what!

Now that's cool!

Would love to have a blow up pic and frame it of that.

These animals live in nature, without you. They know when to eat, when not to eat, how much to eat, etc. Why do you think they cannot do that in captivity? They do know, you are suppose to support what THEY DO, not hold back food because you keep them at temps they would not pick.

Those pics are wicked! I have had western hog eggs go totally see-thru a few days before hatch, but they never start out like that!

Thanks guys. I think it is amazing myself. I will try to take some better photos tonight. I took some video with my iphone and sent them to Mitch. They did not move that much during the video, but did move. At one point the snake was looking right at me!! LOL. Crazy. To see them move is even more amazing so I have to see if my wife will help me put a link up for video. Oh, and feel free to save those photos and use them. I put them up for all to enjoy!!

Peace---Joe

Dniles Aug 12, 2011 05:54 PM

Joe that is CRAZY! glad you waited it out. I hope they make it. They look like if they do they will be on the really small side.
Usually the neonates take up all the usable space inside the egg and those look like they're not really filling out the egg so I wonder if they will be really smaller than they should be when they hatch?

We'll see - definately post more pics on their progress!!

Dave, I agree and they are not out of the water yet, but things look good for them to hatch. Can't take much to break through those eggs. They could have "dull egg teeth" and break that shell. LOL I think they will be small regardless.

Dniles Aug 12, 2011 08:16 PM

that is just so cool man. you should get some video footage of them moving around in those eggs and definately frame those pictures!!

Dave

joecop Aug 12, 2011 08:38 PM

Yeah Dave, I probably will. I went down to take some better photos an hour ago and they both were tucked down in the yolk. Guess they are camera shy!

Very cool! I had a clutch a Hognose eggs that were clear this

season although not quite that clear. I did end up losing one of

the baby's because when it pipped the egg deflated and

collapsed on the baby trapping it. I guess the more it

struggled to get free the more fluid it forced out , causing

the egg to collapse even further.

Good Luck! Here is a pic showing the deflating. I didnt take any

of the one who didnt make it.

joecop Aug 12, 2011 08:37 PM

Very cool. Yeah, only time will tell if they hatch out normal. I hope they do. I had one last year like this, not quite as clear, but it made it just fine and ate f/t right off the bat!! Same mother to this clutch.

DMong Aug 12, 2011 09:03 PM

If you are lucky enough to actually be around to catch video of it rubbing it's snout along the egg when it pips, that would be the absolute freaking BOMB DUDE!!!!..HAHAA!!

Best of luck with it brother!

Doug, I have been checking every hour or so to try and catch that happening. I actually think they are still five or so days away from coming out though.

Joe

DMong Aug 13, 2011 12:45 AM

Yeah man, if you have a video recorder and a tripod, you might want to set it up on the egg 24/7 until it does pip like they do on TV documetaries..LOL!

Thanks Thomas. I am going to take some more, that is for sure. I would love to be home when they pip so I can video the whole thing. Anything can happen though and I just hope they survive.

Thanks Tony!! I just checked the eggs (4pm here) and one of them (the one pictured) is sweating. So maybe I can catch them pipping.

AllanBartlett Aug 14, 2011 01:19 AM

That's cool isn't it. I notice that when my zonata get close to hatching, I can see through the egg like that sometimes. It lets you get a sneak preview of whats to hatch. The other thing I do is stick a maglite penlite up to the egg during the last few weeks of development and you can see some coils ans how the band pattern is going to look.

joecop Aug 14, 2011 10:01 AM

Allen, these eggs have been like this since they were laid and I could see the hatchlings the entire time. No lighting needed. They have almost zero calcification.
