shedding problems

the_emt_1 Oct 01, 2003 02:04 AM

Heya all, have a few problems with my lil CWD. I posted about him 2 months ago, he was the one that was in piss poor shape when I rescued him. He seems really healthy now, almost tripled his weight (he was nothing but bones when I got him) and grown about 2 inches total. Problem is, he started his first shed since I got him.

About a week and a half ago his back and front arms shed, he had most of it off within a day. However, the top of his head, belly, back legs and tail havent shown any signs of peeling. They are brown, but thats it. I dont know how worried I should be about this, but its starting to bother me. I keep his humidity at about 80%, and he soaks himself for at least 2-3 hours a day, so I dont think its a moisture issue. He is about 6.5 inches svl. around 17 inches total. (a lot of tail.) He is still really active, and feeding well. It doesnt seem to bother him any right now, but I know it cant be good staying on there. Any advise anyone could give me would be great.

Sounds normal to me, they take awhile to shed and don't shed everything all at once.

Ya, dont get too worried yet. They only shed when comfortable, and when they are ready to shed that area. If you become too concerned, you can try bathing him in highly alkaline water. Add some baking soda to his bath water, then let him do the rest.
Good luck.
