Mini Meal worms-Do you guys feed them?

shopaholic Oct 01, 2003 02:12 AM

Actually, I'm doing this backwards. I should have asked before I did this but oh well.. i purchased mini mealworms from Reptile foods.com and fed a few to my Tinc, Imitators and Pampas Toads. I put a few in first to see how they'd all do. Of course, my Tinc saw them immediately, even though the worms hardly moved and he ate a few and then gagged on a couple. My Imitators and Pampas Toads never even saw them, and since the Tinc gagged(but then went back and ate the rest), I didn't put any more in. How concerned about the gagging would you be. And the worms were all eventually eaten(about 10 worms total). These are 3/16 to 1/4in worms. Are they too hard to digest or crush? Or is it the length that is the problem? Also, I got Pin head crickets and they look sooooo tiny. Could I go the next size up, which is I think 1/4 inch-or is that too big?

Thanks!

The mealworms are ok too feed in moderation (they are high in fat). As far as the crickets it would depend on the size of your tinc. A juvi should eat the pin, but an adult would be able to take the 1/4.

I had 1/4" crickets in my tank and my leucs (1.5" or so) seemed like they had alot of trouble with them, and then ignored them. I had to overnight fruit flies for them! Good luck!
