Quick Substrate Question

domingos Aug 13, 2011 11:21 PM

I've owned my first BRB since December. I asked many questions on this forum because I wanted the husbandry to be perfect. So far, so good. Great temperment. Lively while in my hands and eats like a champ. Defecates fine. Always exploring at night.

Right now, I only have sphagmum moss as a substrate in half the cage, as well as in it's hide. The other half consists of paper towels, where it normally goes to the bathroom. It seems like the moss is aways damp, as well as the paper towels. The only time its off a wet surface is when its perched on a vine at night or sits on a flat rock near its water dish. The humidity is in the mid 80's during the day and mid 70's at night. I have a plastic garbage bag covering most of ther screen, and the humidty stays consistent without misting.

My question is the following: Is my BRB at risk for scale rot? Should I convert to cpyress mulch and just leave the sphagmum in the hide?

Thanks.

AFAIK BRB's are not very prone to scale rot. But I do keep mine with dry areas. Yes, damp moss box but the rest of the cage is relatively dry with indented craft paper over newspaper.
