Questions about MBD and some malestuff

eveliina Oct 01, 2003 04:00 AM

I hope you remember my male which I got two weeks ago. He has shown some improvement: he comes out more but I havent seen him climb on anything, he just sits at the bottom and looks back at me (you can't believe how happy I was when he came out for the first time so that I could see him properly) and he has been eating well. I've given him crickets and he chases them around. But last night when I gave him some mealworms (I'm saving my little crikets for the two babies) I noticed he didn't bite properly (he didn't close his mouth all the way and it started to open slowly) like if he didn't have any power in his jaws. Do crested have as powerful jaws as leopardgeckos?
So I started to think if he had MBD because he had such a weak bite and I read somewhere that if they have MBD they can't climb so well (I tried to find this again but I haven't found it).
Do you think he has MDB? He has calcium carbonate on his box but I don't know if he had earlier.

Second question: I noticed also that he had tiny white things at bot sides of his... erm.. I can't remember what they are called in english, the two things at the bottom of his tail... Is this normal or is there more wrong about him?

I'll try to get some pics here.

Thanks,
Eveliina

What you describe is normal. There jaws are not as strong as a leopads, so it does look like they stuggle with the food sometimes.

At what age they appear? I looked at my babies but they don't have any spurs on them.

A pic of my male (not very good one), there shows the white thing at the base of his tail
