Those are some fine animals John!

Let me ask because when it comes to Thayeri, I am not that knowledgable. Is there a way that you can tell how some babies will turn out as adults? I have heard that they can dramatically change colors as they grow. Is this true?

I wanna hear all your thoughts.

All thayeri go through some degree of ontogenetic speckling.....
Some barely do and some drastically do.......

The line bred animals that Tim Gebhardt at Vivid and others have been working with can and will hold onto their hatchling colors......
Since there has been only a few new introductions of new blood in the lines (wild confiscated animals a decade or more ago) most will hold onto their hatchling colors......I am only speaking about those that did not cross lines (locales) nor outcrossed......

It seems the Dan Vermilya and Vivid Reptiles animals seem to be the cleanest adults.......And those that work with animals from their lines.......Other lines like Applegate's, Lemke's, Sipperly's still have the Wild Type look to them........

But......If you check out Bob Hansen's website you can see wild Leonis adults with terrific, colorful patterns.......with little to no ontogenetic speckling.......

So all in all, it depends on the lineage....

These I posted above are from Vivid's line...and will stay the color they are to adulthood.......with little speckling......
You saw the pics of the adults haven't you?

Here they are just in case:

Thanks Billy! And you are welcome......

I REALLY enjoy their surprises every year when eggs hatch.....No morphs needed to not know what is going to hatch.......Very fun in my opinion.......

Like Christmas in the Summer!

And I'm like a little kid on Christmas morning when the presents start to hatch.....LOL

I have been known to lose tons of sleep and call in sick to work when eggs start pipping too.......LOL

Here is an example of a huge MSP (milk snake phase) thayeri that has hardly any speckling........

Thanks.....He has a great bloodline......
I never really breed MSP to MSP because not everyone likes MSP thayeri......I guess the reason is because there are already ALOT of tri colored Lampropeltis........

I still like them but not not as much as leonis.....Leonis is much more variable too.....There's only so many looks an MSP can express as compared to a leonis.......

And here is an example of one that went through some drastic ontogenesis........
Still a gorgeous animal......in my opinion.......

That animal did change but blossomed into a phenomenal specimen! Both looks of the animal are gorgeous, and very interesting to see such change occur.

Very cool to see both pics at the same time!!! Thanks!!!

WOW, that is a dramatic change on that one. I think I actually prefer the coloring on the adult a bit more.

Some do.....
It seems over the last 10 years or less there has been a swing over to the "wild type" looking thayeri.......
I, myself prefer the gray/green or buckskin thayeri with the jagged black borders.....Much like the ones you can find in the wild......
But a screamer orange or yellow leonis always makes my jaw drop too.......lol

Thanks Bob...
That girl has a Classic look to her.....Thick black, split saddles and a buckskin ground color....One of my favorites out of all the thayeri I hatched out this year, but I decided to keep Cheetah instead of her......lol
