A few recent clutches

foxturtle Aug 14, 2011 08:15 PM

My first Pinellas County, FL clutch hatched while I was out of town. I came home to find that most had already shed. Here are a couple from the group:

My second Pinellas clutch just finished hatching today. A total of 10 (3.7):

My Miami-Dade County FL Kings (non-brooksi) also finished up today. 4.3 here:

And just today my 3rd and final Pinellas clutch began pipping:

Just curious. Why do you call these "non brooksi" since they come from S. Dade coutny? Is it based on how they look alone?

So a brooksi phase can be found anywhere? Is that what you meant?

These animals live in nature, without you. They know when to eat, when not to eat, how much to eat, etc. Why do you think they cannot do that in captivity? They do know, you are suppose to support what THEY DO, not hold back food because you keep them at temps they would not pick.

I collected the parents in North Dade, where most of the kings do not look like brooksi. Still decent looking FL kings though. This is the male that fathered that group. The female is fairly similar. You can get kings just like this in South Dade, too.

My bad. I misread your post. I thought you said S. dade.

but even then. You get the same types of kings in s. dade.. So when you have a clucth like this and one comes out more brooksi looking.. Do you call that a brooksi based on looks alone(much like the okatee corns) or do you call brooksi anything from s. Dade irregardless of look?

If it's from South Dade and both parents are good brooksi then I'll call all the offspring brooksi. If the parents are from South Dade, but iffy looks-wise, I'd probably label the offspring according to how they look.

Those look nice. Is there much difference between the 3 clutches of Sand Kings? Can you post pics of the parents?

Jorge,

Clutch 1: Thinner bands, lower bandcounts, but I'm keeping most of them anyway.

Clutch 2: Average bands, not much red.

Clutch 3: Slightly thicker bands, more red, but I expect them to run a little darker

Here are a couple 2 year olds I produced, which will give you some idea of how these can turn out. They are still getting lighter with every shed:

3 feet:

3.5 feet (produced clutch 1):

I don't have pics the parents handy. I'll email them to you.
