Ok stupid newbie question but what exactly is a Blk Pastel, it looks like a cinnamon and how is it different from a normal pastel?

Your confusion comes from a poor choice of names! Black pastels have nothing to do with Pastels... Think of them as another line of cinny, gene works the same, will produce a super when paired with a cinny

in comparison to cinnies, black pastels are generally darker and have pin striping in the alien heads, whereas cinnies are more of a brown/cinnamon color and don't have the granitey pin striping

Cinnies also have pastel for a last name. It is just as inappropriate for cinnies as it is for black pastels. It was just easier to drop the pastel part of the cinnamon name. Enchis were also once called enchi pastels, they also had nothing to do with pastels. We learn as we go.
