Hatch Time. No Warnig. 1st One Out!

trevid Aug 16, 2011 01:47 PM

I guess I should have been ready. Today is day 72, same as mrkents recent alterna hatch, but the eggs, having been checked 1 or 2 times daily since day 60 have not even remotely dimpled. I have been gearing up for at least 80 days, when I checked this am 4 hours after waking up, with only hope to see dimpling, I find 1 out of egg with another head out! Exciting times as 1st one looks really cool...Dave.

Thanks Jorge. I don't know if this should have been an indicator, but the first 65 days or so, no condenstion had built up of sides of tub, but last several days I've had to wipe sides down so i could see in. Also never added water to vermiculite...Dave.

I think that's normal? Mine do it too. I used to make small holes but now I make one larger hole and while the plastic is still soft I place a pipe screen in the hole. it works pretty good, but I still found Carion flies on some spoiled eggs. I think the can get in from the space in the lid. I have an idea to make the lids more air tight too, lol.

Once again I am amazed at the large clutch sizes these alterna have! Nice looking hatchling!
