Interesting Baby

illbeyoursoldier Aug 16, 2011 02:30 PM

This baby was hatched out from a 100% Het Pied male x Poss Het Pied female. It is a very small baby, as it shared space with a twin that never developed in the egg. Of this clutch there were 5 eggs: a Pied (which I was freaking out over here: http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1936576,1936576), 3 other Hets, and this tiny little guy.

I'm not saying I struck gold or anything, but it certainly is an interesting baby. It looks like a Black Pastel to me! At this point, all I can do is wait to see how it's colors developed. It has a broken stripe and is extremely dark with interesting markings. I haven't sexed it yet.

Mom did prove out to be a 0 Het Pied as stated above(yay!), and she was only bred to my Normal 0 Het Male while in my care. She was just shy of breeding size when I got her, and I am uncertain of her history beforehand.

Let me know what you think! Cheers!

pretty cool looking, but looks nothing like a black pastel. id wager that the funky pattern came from some abnormality that was also the cause of the twin/twin dying. temp spike, screwy development, something like that. either way, a cool looking snake. i'd definitely keep it, worst case you have a nice looking pet male lol. best case, proves to be genetic (although quite a rare possibility, it is possible).
