Daytona's Around the Corner, Need Help !

SouthFLBoa Aug 16, 2011 08:17 PM

How's it going guys? Beginner here requesting advice and suggestions from all you pro's out there.. I'm going to Daytona this weekend to get some future breeder's for my very small current collection.

Right now I've got:

1.0 '10 Kahl Albino Motley 100% Het Stripe
0.1 '10 Kahl Snow
0.1 '09 Sunglow 100% Het Anery

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO PAIR EACH ONE OF THESE GUYS UP WITH! I'm not yet understanding how the pairings work in terms of genetics. I'm hoping to eventually produce snows, maybe moonglow's, but really anything cool I'm just not sure how to get there.

So...What do you guys recommend that I purchase at Daytona for each of the 3 morphs in my collection? I'm looking to purchase 3 additional animal's, one for each animal already in my collection.

ANY help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A male triple het - hypo het albino het anery - would give you moonglows from both your females. Including ghosts, aneries, sunglows, and albino's all either het albino or het anery.

For the male albino mot, I'd get him a female sunglow het stripe. That would give you all albino and sunglow mots and non-mots, with some stripes mixed in and everyone else 66% het stripe.

All fun projects, Good luck!

If your going for more bang for your buck I would try and get ahold of Frank Martin and get an Arab dh Snow or Anery Arab het Albino or some kind of combination for your Albino Motley...could always get something Jungle het Snow as well. Basically I would say something Co Dominant carrying both Anery and Albino genes.

I'll be in booths 330-331 PERFECT PREDATORS, and I will have literally over 75 Boa Combinations and I'm bringing the top shelf stuff of each litter to choose from. Im sure we can help you put together a really good package to have some fun with in the coming years! Looking forward to meeting you there.

And of course more info needed to make the final decision. Only you can decide h9ow much you want to spend and what kind of outcome you want variety vs higher end babies.

>>1.0 '10 Kahl Albino Motley 100% Het Stripe

Minimum is a DH Albino Stripe (het Albino and het Stripe) to work with what you already have. I would definitely add in a hypo gene (or two) and maybe another dominant or codominant gene like Jungle. If you want greater variety in the litter go with Het Albino vs Albino. For example using the above mentioned genes the best variety litter would come from a Hypo Jungle Stripe het Albino, there would be 32 possible phenotypes each with 1/32 odds....
Sunglow Motley Striped Jungle to DH Albino Stripe

Of course finding the exact genes in one animal would be next to impossible so you'll have to make adjustments based on what you find.

>>0.1 '10 Kahl Snow

Again, DH Snow is the minimum to take advantage of the genes you have. Then you can add in dominant traits like Hypo, Motley, jungle etc. to increase the genetics of the babies. Again, to increase the variety of babies, you should go with Het Snow and single gene dominants. For example a Hypo Jungle het Snow would have 16 possible outcomes with 1/16 odds each.
Jungle Moonglow to DH Snow

>>0.1 '09 Sunglow 100% Het Anery

Very similar to the Kahl Snow you listed above except has only one Anery Gene and has a Hypo gene as well. In this case I'd say a Motley Jungle Anery het Albino, again, 32 possible outcomes with 1/32 odds each...

From Jungle Motley Moonglow to DH snow.

Of course the better you understand the genetics the more informed your decisions are.

Individual traits for consideration...

Albino and Anery are both recessive meaning the aby must get one gene each from mom and dad to show the trait.
Least cost is het x het but you produce many possible hets
Middle cost is Visual x het, IMO great as you produce visuals and 100%hets
Most cost is Visual x Visual - Produces the most higher end babies but you have fewer varieties produced.

Motley and Hypo are two different morph genes that most consider to be located in the same gene pair. Meaning there are three possible genes within the two genes in six possible combinations where:

N=normal
M=Motley
H=Hypo

so you could have NN, NM, NH, MM, MH or HH

Individually Hypo and Motley are different in that Hypo is Dominant and Motley is co-dominant.

Dominant - same visual phenotype with one or two mutant genes
co-dominant - different visual phenotype with one vs two mutant genes.

Hope this helps.
