Eyeless hog

bbox Aug 16, 2011 11:39 PM

I seem to remember a while back that someone posted a hognose born without eyes. I have hatched out a whole bunch of hogs over the years, but have never seen such a thing...until today.

My eyeless hog

It seems to be fine. It is still not completely out of the egg.
thanks for looking,
Bryan Box

Pretty awesome thing to see. Mine took a bit of scenting but is now going strong.
Very cool to see another pop up. Love the difference in face pattern.
Mine is het hypo also a female.
Yours?

Mine is a 66% het albino, 50% het anery and is a male. Kevin Rhodes is taking it to Daytona so people can check it out. I hope he does well. It would be cool to get those two together an check out the genetics.

Very interesting looking specimen. However, upon close examination of your picture, it almost looks like your hognose might actually still have eyes, albeit very small rudimentary ones, but look at where the arrow is pointed on your picture.

To me, and I could be totally wrong, but this doesn't look like a normal scale and it's black like a little bead and appears to be in a groove, like it was an eye that was developing and then just stopped for whatever reason.

Either way, it's interesting all the same. Thanks for sharing!

I totally agree...not to take away from the 100% weridness...but I see the same thing.

either way...weird...but it looks like it does have eyes...just sub-ducted.

I think that you may be right. I no longer have the snake here, but I did blow up the original photo (not the resized one) and it does look like a very small shiny bead. Both sides look identical though. Still very strange. It did not respond to any movement, so I am fairly sure that it can not see.
