Sunglow Motley?

kouneli Aug 18, 2011 09:28 PM

I've been wondering exactly what color my male corn snake is. I know he's Motley...pure white belly, unusual "saddles"...
Just not sure on the color.

He looks like a sunglow motley-striped. He will turn out to be a beautiful bright orange snake.

Sunglows are a line-bred type of amel. Right now, this critter is pale enough I wouldn't label it a sunglow. Wait a couple and see.

He looks exactly like my sunglow motley did as a hatchling. He will develop deep reds and oranges as an adult.

He very well may be a sunglow motely, but the problem is that sunglow is a selectively bred line that reduces the black borders, creating an animal that is all red and orange basically. Well the Motley gene does a very similar thing to the colors. It tends to wash away much of the blacks, if not all sometimes. So it's kinda guess work when you don't really know the lineage. It's still a great looking snake! And yes it is striped motley. The striped gene is compatible to the Motley gene so you can get a mixed bag of striped, or Motley, and some inbetween like yours. Good luck with it!

Thank you everyone. That's actually an old picture, yet since he's currently at my fiance's house I just haven't had the chance (or when I do, I forget) to get a recent picture of him. He does have loads of reds/oranges. Hopefully will get a more up-to-date picture on here.
