Lights the only way to heat?

Finnigan Oct 01, 2003 08:54 AM

Do you use lights (creating a basking spot) as the only heating device for your ackies or similar monitors?

If so, do you leave the lights on 24 / 7?

I would like to have the lights on a 12 hr cycle, but have a heatpad going 24 / 7. The heatpad would be on the same side as the light, thus leaving one side always cool.

What do you think?

I use flood lights only to create the hot spots. I do leave them on 24/7 but I make sure there are dark hides that they can use when they want. Both on the cool & warm sides.

I don't doubt your idea could work but you would have to be sure to monitor the hot spots when lights are on & off as I am sure temps would change. I don't see it as necessary and probably more trouble than it's worth.
