Black & White Sierra zonatas 2011 clutch

JKruse Aug 19, 2011 10:40 AM

These, along with another het to het clutch, are the first to hatch this year and I wanted to take a moment to share in something unusual. Please enjoy, as I know I have over the last few days watching and waiting for these unique gems to pip and emerge. A total of 5 (4.1) "anery"-looking babies that will develop into into enamel-black and icy-blue/white adults hatched along with 4 (0.4) beautiful hets. I'm in love...

Timeline pics for those that like that sorta thing:

69 days later . . .

The final count . . . natural light

. . . with flash . . .

Some babies with a replenished Sierra mama . . .

Parting shot . . . thanks for looking!

Great pics and outstanding clutch. Congrats. I hope you can continue to show us pics as they shed and grow. Dave.

Awesome. As a California native, I appreciate your efforts and those of others to propagate zonata. Takes pressure off wild populations when lots and lots of CB offspring are readily available.

I was looking at a particular locality in Riverside County, CA - in the field looking that is - that in the past was pretty hard hit by collectors, probably moreso in the 80s but also in the 90s. Today it looks almost untouched. No harm in looking for z's, just be supportive to their continued existence. And I think for this particular So Cal locale, it seems that folks are doing that. Perhaps it is because the snakes are not high on the list of collector zonata, and I think it is in part because CB offspring of this general area are more available now. So keep up the good work.
