HEY WHERE ARE YOU PEOPLE ????????????? LOL Question to get going>

eve Oct 01, 2003 09:06 AM

My goodness dead silence for a week, nothing to talk about? Well I have a question to get things going. One of my chucks Chewalla, is a major pig eats constantly. Under her chin there is sometimes a build up of tough skin or something, I saw one time a name for it. But have not seen it since. I usually put ointment on it until it softens and it then comes off like a big scab of skin. If you understand what I'm talking about , why do they get it? Some sort of dermititis or something? Thanks, Eve

Never seen it in chuckwallas though. After the ointment treat it daily with betadine. That seems to clear it up in uros. What are you feeding? I think it may have something to do with feeding frozen vegies.

Ever, Chewy gets it and the desert iggy sometimes. I never feed frozen (I HATE FROZEN for us) Great assortment of fresh veggies, dandiline greens, flowers, but what I was thinking is it may be banana, he loves it and so does the iggy, I'm thinking maybe their mouth has some left on it and it dries, and gets irritated, I dont know for sure but wondering. I do have benadine though and will try that after the ointment. Thanks, Eve

there was an article probably 10 years ago in one of the reptile mags on this and I believe it was caused from soft food such as bananas, thawed frozen vegies and squash etc. The article was about or pertained to uromastyx.

but he eats like a pig, and gets stuff slopped all over. I should wipe his mouth when hes done, LOL Geezh, getting bad, might as well invite him to the table, and hand him a napkin, LMAO. Thanks you guys for your input, and agreement on the bananas as being the culprit. Have to just clean him when done, can't take his favorite thing away, Eve

My Bells' Hinged back Tort gets something similar after she pigs out on Banana also. It usually heals pretty quick after I clean her up.
