hatchling question

vega1303 Aug 20, 2011 09:36 AM

so here we are on day 50 for my yellow belly to pastel breeding. just doing my normal check before i go off to work and when i open the incubator two snakes are out. one is moving around exploring so i know its ok. the other is just laying there three quarters of the way out of the egg but not moving, after looking at it i figure it died on the way out, i am just wondering why the snake would die out of the egg like that, I'm thinking maybe exhaustion from trying to get out, but i could be wrong. The temp is right at 88.5 and the humidity is definitely not a problem. any other things that could be at play here? i have three more eggs in the incubator and would like to prevent a similar occurrence if i can. Thank you

Sometimes these things happen. I am worried that your temperature readings are inaccurate. Incubating at 88.5 deg should result in hatchlings around day 55. If you have hatchlings at day 50, I fear your incubator is running hotter than 88.5. Double check with another thermometer and temp gun.

That would make a lot of sense considering I wasn't expecting them until friday. I was measuring with both a regular thermostat and controlling it with a spider robotics, but about three days ago the regular one was measuring wrong so I took it out, figured the last few days would be ok with just one. But it did seem to me inaccurate pretty much the whole time but not until the very end was I sure
