Baby Pyro Second Blue

pyromaniac Aug 21, 2011 05:15 PM

Today this little one, Number 7, is in blue for the second time since hatching. I was a little worried they weren't eating enough ( color me Jewish Mother! LOL!) but I am taking this second shed as a sign of growth and vitality. Number 7 is one of the two stubborn ones, too.

How's my favorite (#1) doing? Dave.

Pyro baby number one. Male

Pyro baby number two. Male

Pyro baby number three. Female

Pyro baby number five. Female

pyro baby number six. Male

pyro baby number seven. Female

All have gained weight. Number 7 is promised to my friend Herb in a trade. Number 1 is one of the stubborn ones, but he has gained weight so he is doing well.

Please excuse old post shed pics, but wanted to show who is a male and who is a female. Number 3 is my favorite. I like her little broken white triad thing.

They are all nice. Will you be brumating the babies you keep together this winter? Your setup for the trio looks great, will you breed again next spring? Dave.

I have the 08 trio which produced the babies I got this year. Hopefully next year both females will lay eggs; this last season I took the male out at a most inopportune time and missed the ovulation on the second female. Next year I will leave them together until it is certain the females are gravid.

I have another trio that will be brumated; an 08 male and two 09 females. One of the females finally grew enough to be with the other two in this trio. They may breed next year.

Lastly I have 8 '10 pyros that will be brumated in pairs and trios to accustom them to one another. I don't expect such young snakes to breed, just become acquainted.

The littlest babies will be raised in separate cages for a year or more.

My 09 bull snakes are NOT going to breed next year, as I want the mama to grow more before she mates again. I love my five baby bull snakes even though they were an unplanned pregnancy! LOL!

I will brumate my hatchlings for a shorter length than the breeders, just mainly to stimulate a robust feeding response in the spring. In my cabin in the winter brumation is way too easy! LOL!
