When you decide you are tired of that second one (the ugly one), just let me know and I will take it off your hands.

Seriously, if I decided to get another corn snake, it would be one of those. Is that a ghost-specter? What is the history on those?

Those two middle ones are indeed Specters. They originally popped out of Kathy Loves, Naples Ghost line. Then she began selective breeding them, but sold the project to Donovan Winterberg. Mine should go next year if all goes well?

And just to clarify a bit more for everyone, only the w/c anery corn involved in this "specter" strain of ghosts is the one that originated from the Naples area of Florida.

That thing is really turning on the nice pinks as it matures there Jorge!

The original "Naples" corn was not an anery, but a borderless "normal" individual Kathy picked up at a pet shop in Naples (presumably wild caught) from what she told me. Oddly enough, she said it didn't appear to be a hypo and apparently wasn't het for anything. Once crossed into her ghost lines, she started getting some interesting results though. I'm wondering if it may have been a strawberry now?

Great pics by the way-I have a heck of a time getting the pink to show up in mine. Or maybe yours is just more colorful?

The eggs from this guy are due to hatch in the next week or two if I remember correctly-I'm excited to see what pops out.

a153fish Aug 26, 2011 02:26 PM

Good luck with the eggs! I used a small florescent vita-light for the lighting this time! I've seen venders use aqarium full spectrum lights at the tables at some shows, and it brings out the colors like mad! Walk away from their table and the snake loses that extra spark, lol. Thanks for the extra info on the WC too. Oh I have read up quite a bit on the Strawberries, and many people have done breeding trials with them, and don't believe the Strawberry is the key to the pink snakes. I may try some experiments myself, they just take so darn long!

I never even considered fluorescent lighting, but that sounds like a great method and judging from your pictures, it works well. I really don't know what's up with the specters/Naples, but based on what I've seen, it seemed like some trait that brings out the pinks and is allelic to hypo (like strawberry) would explain the variation seen in this cultivar. For example, I figured my male pictured in the last post is a hypo/strawberry anery and his non-pink brother was a ghost (the parents were a pink male and a non-pink female, both "ghosts".

I have a strawberry anery and a strawberry het anery that I'll be using for test breeding once they're old enough. I may have a few other interesting potential pairings as well, I just hope I can interpret the results well enough to make some sense of what's goign on with them.
