hi Guys, please identify this phase of corn??????

stevesnake Oct 01, 2003 10:46 AM

How u doing 2day folks,
this is an improved pic of one i posted last week.
This neonate was part of a clutch from an intermontana female x
were not too sure!!!!

Choices of male were-blood red, miami, snow, or reverse okeetee!!

Given that 3 of the 7 hatchlings are reverse okeetee, i'm guessing that he may have been the father???

Any ideas what you would call the phase pictured??

Note that the mahogany brown saddles become a greyish colour about 2/3rds down the back of the snake, and also, the yellow saddles disappear at about the same place!!!

Thanx for all your advice, as usual!!!
S.

The colors will change drastically, as always.
A normal, IMO

This hatchling is a normal colored cornsnake.

Now when you say "intermontana" do you mean she is an Emory's corn? Is she normal colored or is she amelanistic? I will give the possibilities for each situation:

If she is normal colored that means she is het for amel. Therefore, the snow or the reverse okeetee could have been the father of the group. If your miami or bloodred are het for amel, one of them could have been the father too.

If she is amelanistic, then you can rule out the snow and the reverse okeetee and one of your other two, either the bloodred or the miami is the father and he would also be het for amel.

There may be other possibilities but these are all I can think of. Maybe someone else good in genetics can help out if I'm not complete in my thinking.

If she is pure intermontana... how in the world did she produce amel offspring? If you know the other fathers wern't het amel than you can at least narrow down the fathers of the amels, but there is just no telling who the normals father could be. All of those males could have bred to her and you could have babies in your clutch from each male. As hatchlings and even adults it can be impossible to tell who thier father is, that is the risk you run when you put different males in with the same female. Especially if they are of similar genetics. It is all guesswork from there.

Hiya! i'll post a pic of the female so u guys can see for yourselves what phase u think she is. A lot of people have called her a light phase miami??

The reason that i was unsure of the phase of the corn pictured was that we had a few normals this year, but nothing with the grey colouring towards the tail?? This is what made me think that this might be slightly different. We had put this female in beside the assortment of males, because we actually thought that she was also a he, and that nothing would happen!!!!Look what thought did eh!!!!

will take a pic of the mother and show her to u.

Cheers guys,
S.
