Question about Midland?

JoInGA Oct 01, 2003 10:56 AM

I found what I think is a baby Midland or Northern. It looks like the pic's I've seen on here. But is it common to find them away from water? This little guy was laying on the threshold of my front door after dark. The nearest water is probably 200 yards away. I live in North Georgia. He is very non-aggressive. Look forward to your feedback.

Yes, it is certainly possible and reasonable that a nerodia will be found, for a multitude of reasons, away from water. There are no absolutes with living animals, therefore we only suggest that water snakes are found more frequently with direct or immediate access to water.
It may be moving to a den site (late in the season as it is) or it may simply have chosen to travel a bit. Either way, your blessed. I've not been so fortunate as to have one come to visit me.
