Corn Snake Heating ?

extremeherps Aug 23, 2011 03:56 PM

Hey I'm thinking of getting a reptile room this fall and heating it to 80 decrease. So my question is in my corn snake rack would I need heat for it or would I need to put a little bit of heat cable near the back for a thermal gradient?

Is the room to house exotics - boas/pythons?

If not, no need to heat it much if you use heat pads/tape/cable/etc. Colubrids do great with a gradient - low to high.

But if you want the ease of a heated room, and I do not blame you, I think it is better to go 82-83 during the day and then go cooler at night if you can. But that is me. I think 80 is too low, and I think a gradient, even just day to night, is better than constant if you can do it.

I have a few corns, and they use higher than 80 deg at least part of the day. If they use it, then that means they want it. They also seek lower temps at times too, but not as much as kings/milks.

when i first started or when i got into reptiles i used space heaters in my rooms this would heat the rooms decent but trying to keep it at a steady temp was a pain because i lived in the north and during winter time the temperature would really mess with them. If you are going to have a heated room i would try to use these (Soleus HM2-15R-32 Micathermic Heater w/Remote and Digital Display). I switched to these and they were the best at keeping the room at whatever temp i wanted it at. i found the best place to have a reptile room was in the basement because of cooling periods, when u wanted to go into this stage just lower your temps down and the room should atomaticly go lower due to lower temps in the basement. I just wanted to throw at ya what i did because i ran into alot of problems when i first tried it.good luck, steve scareptiles
