Ball Python - Umbilical healing

africandreams Aug 24, 2011 10:32 AM

I have a male albino ball python. I have had him for 2 weeks now. There is a small area on his abdomen where you can still see where the umbilical cord was. I was wondering how long it should take this to heal? I believe the breeder said he was hatched in mid-late july. He is roughly 16" and weighs 82 grams one day after eating a hopper. The area is not open or drainging. It just looks like a small crease with a tiny black speck in the center.

Post a pic.

I have a feeling it is the normal "belly button" and is healed. The scar will become less noticeable after each shed.

If it's not bleeding or draining it sounds like it should be OK. Just keep an eye to make sure it's healing and it doesn't get infected. You could rub some iodine on it to guard off infections
