Whats the best cinny for pewters?

steve4940 Aug 24, 2011 11:39 AM

I’m want to breed pewters and silver bullets. The “look” I would like to strive for is the more lighter-faded patterns,“floating” connected side pattern and clean looking backs with no dorsal striping.

So what is my best combination of parents to get this. I’m thinking a light brown colored Graziani with lots of back blushing (no dorsal stripes), high flames and reduced/connected side pattern, or a similar BHB bloodline. Would one be better than the other? I have a blonde pastel reduced patern, no spots with tons of blush and flames to combo with.

Your best bet would be to buy a male Pewter that has the qualities you like, and then breed it to a female Cinny/Cinnies that also have your favorite qualities. That'll produce babies that you love. And with as cheap as those morphs are now, why waste a few years catching up? Get straight to making Pewters and Bullets. I've been working with BHB Cinnies since 2005 and they're my favorite line.

Why do you favor BHB over Graziani Cinnys?

I would also agree. There are several nice looking male cinny pewters out there that could be purchased for $350. You could then produce pastels, super pastels, cinnys, pewters and silver streaks in your first clutch bred to your Pastel. If you go the Cinny route, you will only produce pastels, cinnys and pewters. Missing out on hitting a triple gene animal to save $225????

I totally agree with you Jason, and Ryan T. The idea to skip right to a pewter makes perfect sense. However, I have yet to see a pewter for 350 that is what I am looking for. And that would be tops for what I can afford right now for a pewter. That's why I'm thinking the cinny route. My collection is very small and I have what I think are high quality BP's. I'd rather take the long route and feel good that my small collection is the best my money could buy. I think there are too many breeders who buy cheap. They breed only to sell and make money. As a result the market gets flooded with average or below average designer morphs. I'd rather have an exceptional pewter than a below average silver bullet any day. Or in this case an exceptional cinny rather than a average pewter. Yeah, I know genetically it's a gamble no matter what, and two exceptional parents can produce average offspring. I'd still love them all none the less, but why not have the Morph Gods be on your side as much as possible.

Steve, I have several male pewters and a few male cinny's that I have produced this year. Unfortunatly, I produced more males than females. There are some of us breeders that only sell what they produce, they are not buying at wholesale and marking them up to make a quick profit. Most of my males have already paid for themselves 10 times over in the offspring they have sired which have been sold. I usually hold back alot of the females that we produce. Sometimes breeders will have a bunch of males of a particular morph in which they are willing to sell for slightly under what the current market is advertised at. This does not mean that they are B grade animals. If you want a male pewter for $350 plus shipping, I have a few to choose from. I have seen other adds on Fauna Classifieds advertising male pewters for that price as well.

I don't know if it is a possibility for you but I saw a few days ago that Richard @ High Seas Reptiles was selling my girl's papa.

This pic is of my girl. The sire looked pretty similar.

Duh, nevermind. The sire was a pewter too.

Sometimes it is tough to gauge the outcome of the babies though.
This is my male cinny

And he sired my 4 pewters...which came out MUCH nicer than I thought would come from him. Even his daughter came out nicer than him.
