How bad are your odds?

mds4z Aug 25, 2011 08:50 AM

It's very cool to see all the pics and great odds everyone gets from from their breeding pairs.

I have had a het to het pairing which has failed to produce any hypos out of 2 clutches and 10eggs total.

Another het to het pairing, 1st year 4 eggs, no albinos.

I am wondering how often do you miss? How many clutches has it taken you? Its probably rare but have you missed more than twice on a pairing?

Mike

I missed this year with a het to het breeding that produced a clutch of 7 eggs. 6 eggs made it through incubation and I got all possible hets, no visuals. Also, I produced these hets so there is no question about them being hets.

I bred a 100% het for Caramel male to a normal female hoping to make some female poss hets! Female laid 4 eggs, just sexed the last baby this a.m., yep, you guessed it! ALL BOYS! Another swift kick to the "nether" region by the Ball Gods! "Thank you sir, may I please have another"!

my buddy produced 3 albinos from a albino x het 4 years ago, he has breed the same pair twice since, 2 years ago and got 9 eggs...all hets he tried again this year...11 eggs...all hets. odds gods took a giant crap in his cheerios for sure.

0.3 double het pied/carmel 1.3.2 normals, 1.3.1 pastels, 0.1 mojave, 0.1 pinstripe, 0.1 albino, 1.0 yellow belly, 1.1 het pied, 1.0 amelanistic corn, 0.1 normal corn, 2.1 miniture dachshunds, 0.1 beautiful fiance

I had a het male x albino female 5 egg clutch last year and no albinos. Same pair this year, 5 eggs and 1 albino.
Also had a huge normal female lay 9 eggs this year. Bred her to a Lesser male. One lesser out of nine eggs. And it's a male!

last year i used a pastel male only and got 25% pastels for the season, this year out of the 2 mojave x normal clutches to hatch so far, i have gotten 1 mojave out of 8 eggs

We missed on hitting lavender albino 2 years in a row from het to het, 10 eggs total. We also smoked the odds in other clutches! Odds are what keeps us going!

This year in a 5 egg clutch from Mystic to Spider we hit on 3 Mystic Spiders so...

Bee to pastel trying for a killerbee, 4 clutches in 3 years and still no killer. This year was the worst. Female dropped 1 egg and 5 slugs, the one egg hatched a pastel that died before getting out of the egg.

I did just see a POG hatching today from a pastel het OG to a 66% possible het OG, and had a 4 egg butter x normal clutch hatch out 1.3 butters 2 weeks ago..... Win some and lose some I guess.

never missed totally unless it was a dinker....(single gene)
bad odds more than once...
just missed queen bee...but hit 3 other doubles...so cool...

...even on possible hets I always hit at least 1.....(once 6 eggs...last was a ghost)....

it happens....

same as male female...sometimes all but 1 male sometimes all but one female....or better....(just had 7 fem from 8 eggs and the male was the pastel)..!!!

Depends on how you want to see it.

Out of 6 female, only 3 went full term.
1 of them was full of slugs.

The other one resulted in one mojave female (from a g.stripe female), 3 normal baby where 1 died after hatchling.
The second clutch resulted in 6 dead babies out of 7. And it was from a mojave x lesser clutch. Even if they survived, I only got 3 mojave (may be one was a lesser) from it, the other 4 were normals, no bels.

That's bad odds unfortunately.

But I got better odds in the past. Hopefully it will better the next years as more female get up to breeding size and the collection mature.

For the most part the odds tend to even out over the breeding season. This yr. I have nailed the odds on a few clutches and struck out completely on others. I am just glad to be doing what I love to do and producing some awesome animals in the process. Here are a couple of clutches that I did not hit on the odds.

Clutch #14 NF#85 X Fire laid 6 eggs Results 4.2 Normals
Clutch #32 NF#41 X Mohave laid 8 eggs results 0.2 Mohave, 4.1 Normal one stillborn severly kinked mohave.

Clutch #51 Het. Albino X High Contrast Albino laid 7 eggs+1slug
Results 0.0.6 Het. albino and 0.0.1 Albino just hatching today

Clutch #56 Mohave X Pastel Mohave Laid 7 eggs. Results were 0.0.1 Pastel Mohave, 0.0.2 Mohave, 0.0.2 pastels 0.0.1 normal and one kinked dead pastel mohave.just hatching today. The odds of hitting the super mohave and/or the pastel super mohave were 1/8 so its not unheard of not to hit, but disappointing when you dont after the 2month wait, but there is always next yr.

I will be taking some pics soon of some of the morphs we produced and post them soon. Here is one of the pastel enchis

here's an update, went ahead and cut another mojave x normal 4 egg clutch today 1 mojave and 3 normals. that brings my total up to 12 eggs, with 2 mojaves and 10 f#@&ing normals. the other clutch so far was a complete knockout at 3 pastaves and 1 pastel from a mojave x pastel. im starting to get pretty bummed out about all this bullsh%#. i have 3 more clutches other than the ones that hatched/cut already, hopefully they make up for it

Good post- I’ve crushed some odds and have been on the low percentage side but the one that sticks out for me is my 100% het Piebald female I purchased 7 years ago. Only two clutches of eggs one to a pos het with all the markers and one to a Piebald , no visuals yet.

If I'm even lucky enough to hit on a combo I want, it's not the gender I'd have wanted.

On my last 30 some eggs I've only hit on a double gene 3 times, triple gene 0 times and never the gender I want.

Example this morning I had a clutch hatching out, the one and only double gene is a male, I wanted a female.

I have 3 more clutches to go and I'm not holding my breath on any of them.
