tick solution

Bluerosy Aug 25, 2011 11:41 AM

People ofen ask me what they should do in case of mites and mite eggs.

I highly reccomend this sergents shampoo. It has the right solution of permethrin. There are other dog and cat shampoo with the wrong type of permethrin. So get this brand.

I think it works better than nix or the reptile mite stuff.

How do you use it? Mix with water....wipe on snake....spray in cage?

Mix with water and spray on everything, including the snake, shelving, tubs, cages etc.

the soap makes it stick. Which is one reason it works great killing eggs. It stays around after it evaporates.

Hi Ross, Hartz Mountain flea powder for cats from your local food store works well. Dust some in the cage and your done. Period.

I have been using it since the midsixties and never had a problem.

Some of your S.D. big time snake breeders use it as well. I turned them on to in in the eighties and they have used it ever since.

All that mixing with water and stuff seems like a lot of work, again some dust in the substrate and your done and so are the mites and ticks. Good luck

Thanks, Frank. Wow, that's easy. Thanks also, Rainer. Not that I have mites right now, but its good to know for the future.

using anything with permethrin if you have cats in your house. That is a great way to jack them up. Cats are HIGHLY sensitive to that chemical, as are fish.

Frontline is much safer, albeit slightly more expensive alternative without the possible neurological side effects on the unintended.

That's a very good reason to hate cats. I used to like them alot more until I discovered I am allergic to them also. Now I appreciate them from a distance. My daughter's cat and I co-exist, but I try not to touch it.

Hey,

How do you apply this solution? Can it be on the snake directly and in the cage. I have never heard of this before honestly. I have 2 hatchling gray bands so is it safe on hatchlings as well? Thanks as this is good advice.
-----
You can never have only one snake!

Bluerosy Aug 26, 2011 01:12 AM

Yes it's safe on snakes. Just spray directly on it.

I have had good success using UNscented cat flea powder. Sprinkle it in their bedding; on shelves etc. Can also put directly on the snake but not really necessary.
