Is your spouse/partner afraid of snakes?

curaniel Aug 25, 2011 11:00 PM

I see that a lot of people on here, even breeders, have significant others who hate or fear (or both) their beloved animals. Sure, my husband doesn't really share my enthusiasm, but he likes my snakes well enough and will even feed them for me on occasion. I've always said "love me, love my beasties" meaning my cats and snakes - does anyone else work around that kind of stance? For those of you in relationships with people who are ophidiophobes, how do you deal with it? What kind of compromises have you worked out? If you're in a long-term relationship, have you seen any change in your sig. other's attitude toward snakes?

Good question,

For my wife it has to be out of sight/out of mind. Snake room is outside the house. Didn't start that way, but ended up there. I'm OK with that. In fact I now prefer it.

My GF claims she almost never talked to me because I had a burmese python around my neck the first time she saw me.

She now owns a 10 foot boa and a couple of rattlesnakes... (And has handled a few mambas and cobras.)

My spouse and I have battled over keeping reptiles (snakes and lizards!!!!) for the past 20 years!!!! Compromise is not a term my wife has in her vocab. I lost the latest battle in May so I am without any Reptiles for the first time in 20 years. This will change this coming June as we will be back in a house and there will be snakes kept!!!! NO COMPROMISE!!!!
