Small smell question???

Skyfire_1 Aug 26, 2011 11:40 AM

I have four snakes in our small spare bedroom in a large rack system where I am using paper toweling as a substrate. I do a complete cage clean twice a week, on Wednesdays, and one of the week end days. But the small room still tends to periodically get a small smell that I am thinking may just simply be the urine smell, which to me isn’t bad, but to the wife it’s a different story. (The wife thing is a whole another post I may be posting soon).

So here is the question. Is there a substrate I can use that tends to keep urine smells down by absorbing it better, or even the caging itself, is glass better than the plastic tubs? Air Freshener? Or does this even matter to other’s in the hobby?

Thanks...

I use aspen and I have an air refresher thing in my snake room
too. I clean the aspen whenever I see any waste, basically every
day. I don't have a problem with odor.

You can always try using an air purifier, but I'd use some
cheaper air refresher devices first. (And aspen).

You could try cleaning any droppings out as soon as they appear. It works for me

Definitely find something other than paper towels. Paper towels are terrible at absorbing the odor and actually seems to make it worse. Plus they absorb the liquid and it spreads all over, which doesn't seem healthy.
