Specters have hatched!

Kevin Saunders Aug 27, 2011 12:04 AM

I wasn't expecting them to hatch for another week or so since I was incubating them a little cooler, but apparently the whole clutch popped out earlier today (maybe even yesterday?).

I tried to get a quick pic of each one as I was separating them to show the different patterns. Some are noticeably lighter than others at the moment, but there may be less variation after the first shed. Anyway, here are some pics.

Probably my favorite already-love that pattern, just like dad's.

Unfortunately this one has a pretty severe kink in the spine just above the vent. I'm hoping it will eat and pass food without issues so I can find it a good home rather than euthanizing it.

These kids are all so mellow-not a strike or tail rattle in the whole bunch. That's not even the best part though. I'm pretty sure I won't have problems getting them to eat.

Finally, here are the proud parents:

Have to admit I don't actually know what a Specter is, but they sure are gorgeous! Really love the patterns!

They're Naples bloodline ghosts (most call them Specters these days). Many individuals tend to get lots of pink coloration and it's suspected that strawberry may be in the mix. I've got some plans to test for that in the future.

I counted 10 heads? They look great, post some progression pics as they grow, if you keep any?

Yep, there are 10 total. I'll post more pics after they've all had their first shed and I'll keep you updated on any I hang on to.

I may want to buy a male from you if they are all super mellow. And the fact that they are gorgeous doesn't hurt. :D

Wow Kevin, those are simply OUTSTANDING!

I cannot wait to see what some of them become later on. That's great about the easy-going dispositions and feeding so readily too. Too bad about the kinked one, that is always a bummer to see. I had to euthanize a couple this year myself..
