sonoran cannibalism?

gizzy20001 Aug 29, 2011 12:52 AM

I just introduced my younger gopher snake in with my others which I had done before with no issues and there was no problems this time, I went on cleaning the younger ones cage as I had done before and when I went to get in it is gone. I was there in the room the whole time and saw or heard nothing.

Unless the little one is hiding very well, it probably did become a meal for a larger one. I have heard of babies cannibalizing each other when the breeder put them in a bucket after hatching. It is rare, but does happen. Plus if you put a little snake in with a big one and the big one is hungry...snakes are opportunists.

went back through cleaning cages again and guess who drops out of the cage lid, (a sliding glass lid, she had gotten up inside the track) the smaller female gopher snake, she was really hiding well and intended to stay that way because she was not happy to be found, hissing, striking, and tail rattling. it was all kinda cute coming from something so small, but she is now back in her own tank, lesson learned. no-one got eaten
