bringing a new chamleon home?

compasscreek Oct 01, 2003 01:53 PM

in the next week i will have a female nosey be arriving. i want to get her checked out at the vet to make sure she is healthy and has no bugs or anything. my question is how far apart should i keep her cage and my current chamelon's cage until i know for sure she is clean? i don't want my guy to get sick or anything.

I think it would be ok if you keep them on different sides of the room. I'm not sure how close they can be exactly, but it wouldn't hurt to keep them far away for now.
One thing I would be most concerned about is washing your hands in between going from her cage to his for feeding, cleaning, etc. The is probably the easiest way anything would be transferred between them. You can get that hand sanitizer stuff to keep by the cage, and that would make it easier. Also, watch things like if she doesn't eat all her crix, and you put them back, and she does have something (even though she probably won't), and the cricket was exposed to it, that cricket can give it to the rest of them, then him. Did that make sense? It would probably be a long shot, but again if you wanna make sure probably something that's good to be careful of.
Congrats on the new arrival! I can't wait to see pics! (I'm so jealous, I want to get a mate for Orion, but I have to wait until summer :P)

A tip: when doing cham-cage things, always feed/clean, water YOUR cham first and the new one second. It is easier to remember and you are less likely to transfer anything from the new cham to the older one. Give the new cham visual privacy too...make sure it can't see your other one.
